One of our FIDO volunteers became aware of a 3 month old pup who was reportedly being kept outside with no shelter. The owner was on his way to jail and he just wanted the pup gone. So he agreed to give the pup to his neighbor, an elderly woman. Since the neighbor could not keep the pup, she asked our volunteer for help, who picked him up within the hour. The first photo shows the pup in her car heading toward a brighter horizon.

Our volunteer already has a houseful of dogs, so she passed the pup on to a FIDO staffer, who fostered the pup in her home for a few days. Although only 3 months old, the pup weighed a whopping 28 lbs. And although only 3 months, the little dude was full of energy and personality, and could hold his own with the other 4 dogs in her house. We decided to name him Howie and put a polka-dotted bow-tie on his collar for his photo op in photo #2. We reached out with his photos and sad story to Indyhumane. They agreed to take the pup within a couple of days. In the course of 3 days, Howie was now headed on to the 4th stop on his little life’s journey. Howie happily wagged his way into the Indyhumane shelter with one of their intake staffers. Hopefully, Howie has only one more final stop when he is eventually adopted into a new permanent home for the rest of his long life ahead of him.
