Adopt a Dog

  • Name: Wagner
  • Breed: Shepherd/Akita mix
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 10 months - 1 year

Wagner was found running along the side of a busy street in Indianapolis.  When we stopped to help, he ran right over to us and jumped right in our truck.  Since he was friendly and healthy, we hoped that he had an owner/guardian looking for him.  But after a brief stay at the Indpls Animal Care and Control stray kennel, he was never claimed. Since then, he has been living in a foster home with 6 other dogs and 2 cats.

Wagner is probably about 10 months to 1 year old.  He is likely a shepherd mix, with maybe a little Akita in the mix.  He has medium length brindle-colored fur and weighs about 45 lbs.  He is neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, and heartworm negative.  He is a very healthy, happy dog.

He is pretty well crate-trained and close to being house-broken.  Wagner is really a very sweet, loving dog and is happy to meet and greet all humans, both friend and stranger.  He also gets along great with most other dogs, both male and female, large and small.  Wagner looooves to play endlessly with other dogs.  He is generally submissive with other dogs.  Once in a while, in his enthusiasm to play, Wagner will annoy one of the older, grouchy dogs in the house.  On a couple of occasions when one of the grouchy dogs snapped at Wagner, Wagner snapped back.  But the altercations where of short-duration with only a few minor scrapes.  Wagner responds well to correction and will stop when commanded.  He is really a very sweet, loving dog.  He seems to be a cat chaser and so isn’t allowed around the cats yet.  It is still unclear whether he is safe with cats.

Wagner would make a great addition to a house with at least one other dog who loves to play too.  Based upon his observed general temperament, he may be fine with kids, although he has not been evaluated around children.  If you can give Wagner a good home with kindness and responsible care, please contact Darcie Kurtz at 413-5547 or .
